A Blessing

I will probably never get used to the weather in Santa Monica.  In Arizona, you can pretty much wear shorts and a t-shirt all day, every day of summer and be just fine.  Here, I wake up and it's cold.  Then I go to work and it goes from being super nice to super warm.  Just when I'm in  the middle of sweating, I head back home and by the time I get to dinner it's super cold again!!  It's like you need to constantly be able to change clothes in order to match the bipolar weather.  But on to more important things...

Tonight was another Bible Study night with our action groups, but before starting our study, we made up a few survey questions as a group that we wanted to try out on the Promenade.  We went out for about 30 minutes in hope of getting into one good conversation and seeing how effective our choice of questions were in entering into a spiritual conversation.  I went with my action group leader, Annie, and we had the opportunity to talk to two different people (really 3 because the second was a couple), one of which was a pretty awesome encounter.  On one of the Promenade corners we noticed a young couple, (a boy and girl) who were singing on the sidewalk.  Annie was really interested and kinda wanted to find out what they were all about, so when they finished their song we went ahead and approached them, saying that we were doing a short survey about perspectives on life and spiritual things.  As we got to talking to them, we found out that the young couple was actually homeless and had come from Washington and through Colorado and were now in Colorado.  They were singing to try to raise some money.  The awesome thing about the two was that they did believe in God.  The girl was definitely a Christian and had a relationship with Christ, though the man seemed a bit more skeptical and maybe still searching to be sure.  The way they talked was totally encouraging to me because despite their awful situation they were totally positive and faithful.  They weren't mad at God, but expressed a type of acceptance that they were where He wants them and just their continuing prayer that He would bring them to a better place.  They were really happy to chat with us, and by the end I asked permission to pray with them before we parted.  They were totally responsive, and we sat right on the sidewalk holding hands while Annie and I prayed for their situation and continuing trust in God.  I was so thankful to have the opportunity to just love and bless and pray for them, and we invited them to join our group in our weekly meetings if they happened to stay in the area.  Seeing people like that makes me realize how thankful I should be for where I am at in life, and so awed by the things that Jesus can do. :D

  1. I am so glad things are going well and you are enjoying CA. It's interesting to meet so many people at so many different places in their lives, and get to know their perspectives, isn't it? Miss you!
