Kind of Magical...

The last few days have been a really intense time, both physically, spiritually, and emotionally.  Along with having work all day, it has been our very last week with the project staff.  On Tuesday night we had a very humbling and provoking event called an "International Dinner."  I would love to share the details of the event (although it would probably take a VERY long time), but unfortunately we are sworn to secrecy so that we don't ruin the experience for anyone who might have the opportunity to partake in the same thing.

Today was Renaissance day at camp!  Shannon and I both dressed as artists (quite convincingly too) and we had a lot of fun being silly for the kids!  Although, I have found that everyone was right in their comments about June gloom in California.  It's now July and VERY HOT. At least during the days at camp.  I think we took one picture dressed up, so I will try to get a hold of it for one of my later blog posts. :)

Tonight was both a very sad and incredible night.  It was our very last night with the project staff so included a lot of special things and ceremony.  The night began lighthearted with awesome food, fun conversation, and TONS of funny pictures.  Afterwards, things became much more serious.  One of the special things about Summer Project is that when the staff leave halfway through, each of the students takes on a job and we lead the entire project ourselves.  In the past few days we had all been told personally by our discipler what role we had been given, but weren't allowed to discuss it with anyone else.  Tonight, the staff announced all of the positions and literally handed over their torches by calling each team up and lighting each person's candle with their own.  It was a really beautiful and special time, and I was pretty much on the verge of tears/crying through the whole thing.  Afterwards, the staff disappeared in the 'not previously mentioned staff rapture' and it was crazy how one moment they were there with us and the next they were gone, without even saying good bye.  I really just can't describe it.

My role on the new staff team is Prayer Team Leader along with one of the men on project.  Along with a group of four other people who comprise our team, our job is to take over making material and planning Date Nights with Jesus, a Wednesday night worship service, and other prayer based things.  It's a big job, but I know our team will work together amazingly and I am so humbled and thankful for the opportunity to help lead it.

After the staff left, our new project directors (students) took over and expressed their vision for the next four weeks.  Next, they did this amazingly beautiful and humbling thing of acting as servants and individually washing each students feet.  This was coupled with intense prayer amongst all of the project.

As I'm writing this post, it seems somewhat bland and undetailed.  The truth is, it's impossible to describe the things that go on here.  Tonight was probably one of the most amazing things I have every experienced, and its just impractical to try to put the experiences into words.  I hope this post can give you a glimmer of an idea of this project, and assure you that even if I can't describe everything, incredible things happen every day and I am growing so completely in Jesus. :)

  1. Wow! You will have this time to treasure for now and always. Sounds like a really unforgettable evening. Even a glimmer of what you experienced is better than not having known anything about it. Thanks for sharing!
