I've come to the conclusion that I am going to enjoy my Honors class about "Thinking Critically about New Media." Not only does it begin about 10 minutes late everyday, I have yet to receive an actual assignment (although I am sure they are coming.) Today in class, in order to explore 'new media', we did a stream of consciousness exercise where an internet page was brought up on the board in front of us and together as a class we chose to navigate through a variety of random screens and websites. Our adventures included reading various things about bacon and watching numerous You Tube videos. In the end, we were supposed to notice the variety of advertisements that arose on the screen as we proceeded, almost all targeting audiences specifically in Tucson. Basically, its just a fun class =)
With my first week of life in college coming to a close I've found that I've learned numerous things about myself and college life...
1. In college, I trip more than my usual amount of tripping because of the excessive walking. One day, I think I will be not so lucky enough to catch myself and will probably face plant on the sidewalk.
2. If you have an umbrella (which I don't) you should carry it everywhere because the weather changes drastically between every class.
3. It is much harder not to be distracted. In Kingman, I could go home after school and sit and do homework for hours without being distracted. Here, there is the constant movement of people within the dorms and I often find myself leaving my door open in hopes that someone will come and rescue me from my homework while at the same time praying that everyone will leave me alone so I can get something done.
4. You don't have to go looking for church groups really. They have tables all around and are eager for new people to join them in their college groups and attend their churches. Needless to say, I hope to try out one this Sunday night =)
