Today, despite it being a Sunday, was a fairly busy day. Disregarding the fact that it was the weekend, the Honors College scheduled a 'launch' for the incoming honors freshman at 10 am. As would be expected I thought it would be the general "welcome to the honors college, we're gonna walk you around campus and show you the buildings." It began that way, with a welcome from the Dean and a keynote speaker, however instead of being shown around campus, each table was given a paper with 'scavenger hunt like' instructions and a camera and told we had an hour to follow the instructions and come back. We ended up walking around campus and taking pictures of ourselves doing strange poses (like pretending to be trees and re-enacting a play) with various buildings. My group was fairly creative and we ended up doing some pretty interesting things... When we got back to the ballroom where we were meeting for a lunch, a group of upperclass honors greeted us with a very upbeat and cheery dancing performance to 'Don't Stop Believing.' I was slightly caught off guard but overall had a fun time and some good conversations with other honors students.
After doing a couple hours of homework, I went to Heritage House with a few other people from my dorm. Heritage House is a house pretty close to campus where there is a college student fellowship group. The people there were really really nice and it made me so happy to be in the christian-type environment. We also enjoyed a home cooked meal (which included chicken and rice!) that was sooooooo very good. Especially after a week of union meals. In addition, one of the adults present brought along some small children, one of which was a six year old little girl. When she met me, she told me I was very small. I don't think I've ever been told I was small by a six year old before, but I suppose there is a first time for everything. Now to 'enjoy' my second week of classes and homework =)
