Carnival!!

Last night, I went to work at an elementary school carnival as a philanthropy for Eller Scholars.  I thought, "Hey, working at a carnival with bunch of little kids for 5 hours should be fun!" Ha...I wasn't thinking very clearly.  We arrived at the carnival and were assigned to control the area for "Minis," AKA, kids under 6.  There was probably about ten little kid games in our area and we were allowed to work whichever one we chose.  Me and a couple of my friends (Morgan and Justin) decided that working the big, blowup, jumping castle complete with a ladder and slide to get out would be easy and fun.  We were sure to have a big line because kids always LOVE the jumping houses and it should be pretty easy cause all we had to do was tell them when do get in and out. Again...not thinking so clearly.  As we expected, we were quite busy and soon discovered that we needed someone outside the house to regulate the amount of children going in, someone at the bottom of the slide to catch the children, and someone inside the jumping house to make sure there were no collisions and help the kids up the ladder.  It was fun for the first hour or two, but by the time eight o'clock came around, we were all trying to avoid our turn inside the jumping house, and by nine o'clock we were very ready to go home.  While watching the same children going in and out and up and down over and over and over and over got very tiring for us, the children never seemed to get tired and the parents found watching their children come down the slide for the 100th time just as cute as the first.  Needless to say, I was soooooooo worn out by the end and had for sure had my fill of children for the month.  I was hungry and ready to leave, and everyone else felt the same way.  However, looking back it really wasn't too bad, some of the kids were awfully cute in their Halloween costumes, and watching the frat boys who were also volunteering teach the kids how to do the 'cha cha slide' and 'YMCA' as pretty funny too. =)

  1. Hahaha...let me tell you, any number of children greater than 2 under age 6 + any activity + more than an hour = complete exhaustion. :D
