Yesterday, I had a very upsetting shopping experience. I needed to go to the mall in order to buy khaki pants and a button down navy shirt for Eller Ambassadors. So after class, I headed of to Park Place with my next door neighbor and another Eller Ambassador who also needed a shirt. I found a nice shirt fairly quickly (a bit expensive, but worth it because it was at Express and fit very well and was a very good quality) and then spent close to an hour searching THE ENTIRE MALL for khaki pants. In every store I asked if they had any, and they replied no, or that they only had corduroys. The lady at Macy's tried to be helpful by pointing me in the direction of some ugly and super long dickies and then saying, "I don't mean to offend you, but you might try looking in the childrens' section." Thanks alot. So I went to the children's section, but as expected those pants fit very much differently than women's or junior's pants. I found myself in the dressing room wearing a size 16 that was so tiny around the waste even up above my belly button that I could barely breathe, thighs that made me look HUGE and pants that were still much too long. Children's size 16 are not made for people like me, they are made for tall, overweight children (no offense intended.) In addition to my distress of not finding khaki pants in all of the usual places you might look for them, I was having severe self control issues. I have not been shopping in quite a long time, and this is the first time I have actually lived in a city with a mall in it. Unfortunately, although there are many things I wish (and may even need) to buy, I have no money to spend on shopping. In my shopping-withdrawal state, it was very very very hard for me to go through the mall and limit myself to only looking for one thing. By the end I was very sad that I had not been able to spend hours at the mall and spend much more. On the bright side, I did FINALLY find a pair of good fitting khaki pants (not even too long!) at New York and Company and also enjoyed an Orange Julius before heading home.
On another note...my PERFECT sweatpants shrunk in the dryer :( I guess I should go buy the larges.
I understand the frustration of spending hours shopping and coming out with virtually nothing or very little. Hope it goes better next time!
