The Art of Networking (AKA making people like me)

Yesterday was the Eller Career Showcase where a bunch of different companies set up booths at Eller and we could dress up and network with them.  Being the dedicated business student that I am, I went to a 9:30 AM Accounting class so that I could attend (because my classes went straight through the showcase times).   I introduced myself to a few different companies I had researched.  Most aren't really looking for Sophomores, but it's a good idea to get your foot in the door ahead of time.  One company that I ended up chatting with for quite a while was General Mills, who had a campus ambassador position that they offer during the school year to a single student.  The campus ambassador works a few hours a month attending different club meeting and telling students about General Mills internships and full time positions and promotes them throughout the campus.  As it turned out, the company was interviewing for the position today.  After chatting with me for a bit, the recruiter agreed that if I could guess  the fast food restaurant where the other recruiter had previously worked, I could have an interview.  He gave me three tries and on the 3rd I managed to guess it (In N Out :P).  So I got an interview! This morning, I woke up super early to go through their assessment process and interview with the same recruiter on campus.  He was really friendly and interested a lot in my future career goals.  In the end, he told me that he really liked me and worse case, he wants to meet with me again in the fall.  Best case, I get the job.  Either way, I'm glad I can make a good first impression!

This weekend and next week seems crazy busy.  I'm literally just trying to get through one day at a time, but I always find that when I reach the end of the day, I have managed to accomplish everything and still be in a pretty good mood :)
