My assignment?

My Honors colloquia, Ten Theories of Human Nature, has one assignment besides an essay at the end of the semester.  Every week, we read a chapter on a new theory and a few people bring in pictures that they think represent the theory.  This along with a summary of the pictures importance/how they relate to the reading is 50% of our grade.  Today was my day to bring in pictures.  I was kind of excited because I chose to make my week the week we were reading about the Bible, and because this is something I actually understand, I would finally be able to add something meaningful to the conversation.  I picked my pictures carefully, ones that may be a bit cliche but had deeper meaning and relation upon explanation.  I arrived at class prepared to discuss my pictures and explain to the class why I had chosen these particular ones.  However, my teacher, who generally does most of the talking in class because we don't really understand everything he is talking about, decided that he would do pretty much all of the talking today as well.  Instead of letting me, and the other two people who brought in pictures to talk about them, he simply flipped through the pictures on the overhead and talked about them himself.  Although this I suppose could be considered nice or a relief because we were off the hook to really do anything, I was really disappointed.  I actually WANTED to talk about my pictures, and I thought that was the point of allowing us to bring them in.  I left class slightly dejected because, after all, it was MY assignment, not his, right?

  1. So - send him an email and tell him so! You're absolutely right! What's the point if there isn't some discussion going on?!!! Tell him your auntie thinks he's a dork if he's afraid of a little intelligent conversation!

  2. I understand you feeling dejected. You put a lot of work into being prepared and got left out. Sound to me like it was not a subject he really wanted discussed without having total control. How can he properly grade you if you don't have an opportunity to present? oh well, life goes on.
