Sometimes You Just Have to Get up and Drive to California

These past few weeks, the days in Tucson have been going by verrryyy slowly.  Get up, go to work, come home, eat, do whatever activity I have planned for the day, and then go to bed. Same thing every day.  Not bad things, just not exciting things.

This Thursday, my boss and I had a conversation that went something like this:

Me - It's really quiet this week, there hasn't been much of anything to do.
Boss - If there isn't anything to do...maybe we should just take tomorrow off?
Me - I mean... we could.
Boss - well what do you think? Do you need the hours?
Me - I do. But, if there isn't anything to do, I just don't really know what the point is in coming.  If you tell me not to, maybe I'll just head home to Kingman?
(my roommates were leaving me for the weekend so I would be all alone)
Boss - Isn't that like a whole day drive?
Me - 5 hours, not so bad.
Boss - In that case, take Monday too!
Me - are you sureeeeee?
Boss - yeah!

I wasn't going to argue any further.

But then I got to thinking, if I have Monday off too, technically, feasibly, I could go to California instead.  So I did!  Decided 6 PM Thursday night, and left 6 AM Friday morning!  It felt like God fit everything together perfectly for the trip -  time off, gave me a lovely place to stay in LA with one of my best friends from UA (Shannon), provided an Ipod and even an audiobook for the drive!  So...after 8 hours in the driving in my car by myself, and only one slightly-crazy-because-I-can-only-talk-to-myself phone call to Nicole, I arrived in Santa Monica!  The weather is beautiful here and I spent a perfect evening with Michael, sitting on the beach, eating on the promenade, riding the Ferris wheel at the pier (which, even after living here last summer I had never done) and meeting some of his project friends at the Palm!  It's so lovely to take some time away from Tucson and just be here.  I'm looking forward to spending the day hanging out with Shannon doing whatever it is we feel like doing because we can :)

I wanted to take some pictures but my phone's camera is really not so good at all - maybe I'll still take a few today!

  2. Sounds like you made the right choice going to CA instead of Kingman!
